Frequently Asked Questions

What is the history of the Challenge Coin?

The Challenge Coin has been around since WWI. It started when a pilot decided to have a memorable coin made for everyone in his troop. After being shot down behind enemy lines, the coin was all he had left to prove he was an American soldier. Since then, soldiers are required to keep their coin on their person at all times and are periodically “challenged” to produce it.

Custom challenge coins are a symbol of loyalty that are highly prized. They have significant perceived value, and that’s why they are so revered to signify the kind of honor towards a team or group that people are proud to keep and display forever.

What sizes do your coins come in?

There are several shapes and sizes to choose from. Generally, coin sizes range between 1.5″ and 3″ but we can create any custom size and shape that you would like.

What types of plating choices do I have?

A lot! There are too many for us to list here actually, but we don’t want you to feel empty handed so here are a few of the basic options: High Polished Gold, High Polished Nickel, Antique Gold, Antique Silver, Antique Copper or Brass, Black Nickel… see what we mean! Feel free to contact us directly if you would like to discuss all your plating options in more detail.

Is there a minimum or maximum order amount?

We work with a lot of smaller units and/or groups. For that reason we do not require a minimum order. However, the price per coin does go down with larger orders. Our price breaks start at 100 coins.

How much does a challenge coin typically cost?

Because our coins are all custom made, that means our pricing is custom to each order as well. However, one part of the pricing which is consistent is the price for the die that we have to create custom for each order. This can cost anywhere between $150 – $300, depending on the amount of detail involved. After that, pricing is fully dependent upon the amount of coins ordered, size of the coin, and plating choices.

What are shipping costs?

Our shipping on coin orders is always FREE! This includes orders being shipped to APO and DPO addresses. However, in order to offer competitive pricing on some of our accessories we may charge a shipping fee due to weight and size on some of these items.

How long will it take to receive my order?

The design process of the coin can vary between designs due to changes and revisions, but once the design is finalized it takes 2-3 weeks for stateside addresses and 4-6 weeks for APO and DPO addresses to receive your printed coins.
